DTM Classic Cup 02 2022 Saturday First Notes after Qualiying 1
#28 Michael Meyer, BMW 323i
Right under acceleration out of the pitlane, the engine cover opened up and flipped over the frame of the windscreen. The east german car mechanic from Oberwiesenthal in the well-known Erzgebirge needed to stop immediately – so was the entire qualification session. Luckily enough, the front hood could be fixed and the driving continued. Meyer is featuring a classic 2.3-litre-sis-cylindre-in-line-engine, equipped with carburettors.
#66 Lukasz Rawecki, BMW 320i
The similar looking Jägermeister-liviered car, brought to Imola from Poznan/Poland on a 1.500-kilometres lasting trip, had an engine failure during qualifying – a new four-cylindre-powerplant will be mounted until the race on saturday afternoon.
#1 Peter Mücke, Ford Zakspeed Capri turbo
Despite setting the fastest laptime in the overall, the founder of Mücke Motorsports will start into the race from the sixth row due to be overtaking under red flagged conditions. As a matter of fact, Michael Kammermann (BMW M1) and Michael Hess (Porsche Carrera RSR Group 5) will share the front row.
#24 Donald Molenaar, Alfa Romeo Montreal
The well-experienced dutchman set a massive surprise with the sixth fastest laptime in a the light yellow Group 4-machine from the beginning of the seventies, featuring a normally aspirated eight-cylindre-engine with mechanical fuel injection and a 75-degreed crankshaft, producing a bright and beautiful sound.
#6 Ronny Scheer, BMW M1
The winner of last year´s DTM Classic round at the Red Bull Ring in Styria, Austria kept away from any kerb, took things more easy in direct comparison to Michael Kammermann in the slightly faster BMW M1 an came in on third position. Chief mechanic Mike Heup prepared the car especially for the hot and sunny weather conditions by using a high-performing intercooler in the front end. Apart from that, the ratio of the five-speed-Getrag-gaerbox had to be changed until the late friday evening. For the race distance today, everything is set – and Ronny Scheer is willing to catch up Michael Hess with the fastest Porsche in front of him.
#2 Philip Kennewell, Schnitzer-BMW 3.5 CSL
Despite starting from the eleventh row in a well-respected grid, the chief technician of the EFA Automobil Museum in Amerang. Bavaria, is looking forward. All the issues on the 1975-spec. Schnitzer-tub, used by Switzerland´s customers Walter Brun and Martin Zondler back then, have been solved. “To me, racing in Imola in the frame of the DTM is maybe a chance of a lifetime I simply wanted to take as well as by racing friend Alois Landler in the BMW M1, prepared by former Schnitzer-chief mechanic Franz Klinger”.
